HTDSTUDIO DESIGNOFFICE™ is part of the upcoming exhibition This is Newark! opening at the Alijra Center for Contemporary Art in Newark, New Jersey on Wednesday, April 8 through Saturday, April 18, 2009.

The Gateway Design Initiative has explored possibilities through soliciting contributions of design ideas from a broad range of artists and designers. Participants were encouraged to raise a wide range of issues and to propose design strategies that expand and amplify the discussion of the relationship between Newark's identity and built environment.

Teams were challenged to produce design schemes that provide compelling, inventive, spirited, and even extreme interpretations of the design challenge posed here. The City of Newark invited a range of proposals from the feasible to the most experimental.

Other firms participating include: Agrest + Gandelsonas, Gordon Kipping/Gtects, PENTAGRAM, Rickenbacker + Leung, WxY and Michael Sorkin Studio.

From 06.06.08 to 31.12.08 - The 5th Joanna Drew Travel Bursary The 5th Joanna Drew Travel Bursary has been awarded to the curator Caroline Hancock. A former trustee of the Henry Moore Foundation, Joanna Drew was for over 50 years a key player in Britain’s art world. Throughout her distinguished career in the visual arts, and notably in her capacity as Director of the Hayward Gallery,

Joanna Drew was a dedicated supporter of artists and of many young and talented people making their careers in museums and galleries. Joanna served in many important roles in the art establishment and her influence stretched far beyond the confines of the United Kingdom. Following her death in 2003, it was decided to commemorate her contribution to the visual arts of this country by establishing a £2000 annual travel bursary in her name to enable artists, curators, and others involved professionally in the visual arts, to broaden their experience.

Thanks to the generosity of her many friends and colleagues the Bursary has been established and will be awarded annually, administered by the Elephant Trust of which Joanna Drew was a Founding Trustee. Based in Dublin, Caroline Hancock is currently Projects Curator at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA). She has held posts in Paris for the Centre Pompidou, Musée Picasso and Musée d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris/ARC and worked at the Hayward Gallery in London from 2002 to 2008.
